There are plenty of ways to make coffee, from the simple cowboy coffee to expensive super automatic espresso machines. We have Aeropress, ibriki, mokapot, French press, pour over, drip, espresso and so many more. But you know what the old saying says…

“Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door.”

Enter a new coffee machine called the Mokapod. A fusion of interesting industrial design and ingenuity. It’s a countertop, automatic, one button coffee machine that promises to make good coffee, similar to espresso in taste, every time. It even has a automatic shut off for when the coffee is done brewing.

Coming from the Spanish design company Purple Future, and currently funding on Kickstarter , this coffee machine looks impressive. I’m intrigued by this design and the concept. I wonder how it tastes. I don’t have an extra €189 to spend on yet another coffee pot but if you are looking for some fun design to brew good coffee this might trip your trigger.

I’m all for new and innovative design in coffee brewing. I’m pretty sure I understand just how this brews the coffee. It looks like a super percolator. It’s an electric kettle with a built in percolator, insulated and controlled to brew the coffee the same way, every time.

Do I like the design? Yes I most certainly do, it’s eye catching, the colors are awesome. But my counter space is limited. If I didn’t have a coffee machine, ok or 5, I might consider this. Perfect for whatever ground coffee you have. I’m not sure how fine you need to grind it for perfect coffee but it’s interesting.

What do you think of this new coffee machine, is it a design win or miss?
